Christian Death - The Drowning

New video for the classic song The Drowning from Christian Death, edited by Giorgos Kormikiaris. Vocals by Rozz Williams, who committed suicide on April 1, 1998 

Christian Death is an American rock band, formed in Los Angeles, California in 1979 by Rozz Williams. With their debut album Only Theatre of Pain (1982), they became a highly influential act, heralding the American gothic rock and deathrock movements.

After having booked a European tour, Christian Death broke up amid band in-fighting and drug abuse. Williams assembled a new version of the band in 1983 by merging with their scheduled opening act, another L.A. rock band, Pompeii 99. This lineup included guitarist Valor Kand, vocalist-keyboardist Gitane Demone and drummer David Glass. The band went on to record their next two albums, Catastrophe Ballet and Ashes, under this lineup.

In 1985, Rozz Williams left Christian Death, in part due to his increasing interest in experimental music and performance art. Valor Kand took over leadership, serving as lead vocalist and songwriter.

During the late '80s, Rozz Williams resurrected his own version of Christian Death, with his wife Eva O contributing guitar as well as vocals. Billing themselves as the original Christian Death, they were rejoined by first-album guitarist Rikk Agnew for a 1989 tour of Canada. The band was signed to Cleopatra Records, and released The Iron Mask, Skeleton Kiss EP, The Path of Sorrows and The Rage of Angels under the Christian Death name.

Black Tape for a Blue Girl rereleases Halo Star on Bandcamp, (Name your price)

Black Tape for a Blue Girl is an American Dark Wave band formed in 1986 by Projekt Records' founder Sam Rosenthal. Their music takes on elements of dark cabaret, darkwave, ethereal, ambient and neoclassical music. Director David Lynch, former pornographic actress Sasha Grey and writer Poppy Z. Brite are some of their more well-known fans.

Released in 2004, HALO STAR is a mix of ethereal tracks sung by Elysabeth Grant, and somewhat more accessible tracks featuring vocalist Bret Helm. Included are the fan-pleasers "Knock Three Times," the Pink Floydy "The Gravediggers" and the folk-rock "Your love is sweeter than wine."

Celbrating the 10th anniversary of their 9th album, HALO STAR, Sam Rosenthal put it up on Bandcamp for you at "Name your price.." If you like what you are hearing, and feel generous, a little donation is always appreciated.

Der Klinke - Building castles in the dark

Der Klinke is a new wave band from Belgium. Combining the pure atmosphere of the eighties with more contemporary influences. They describe their music as "Sounds from a deep dark foggy basement club surrounded by slow motion shadows, wavers, goths and dreams of a forgotten world". Or in other words you could say that their sound is a unique variety of dark industrial dance, coldwave and classical post-punk.

Der Klinke started in 2009 as a collaboration between.Back then the band was only Geert Vandekerkhof (Ches), Melissa Vandewalle and Manu Coulier (who did the video's) The band's name was quickly chosen because it all started with the reunion of "De Klinke" in 2009. De Klinke was a garden shed outside Geert Vandekerkhof"s parental house built into a small new wave club.

The new wave club of the eighties De Klinke was revived for a short time. But more importantly it gave birth to the band Der Klinke, adding the "r' to De Klinke.

From the beginning De Klinke chose for video and Youtube  to get their musical message accross. In this way Der Klinke gained popularity, even without an album release.  Clear Mind was the very first Der klinke song. With Castle in the Dark and You they visually explored the more darker sides of homebase and coastal town Oostende.

In 2011 Der Klinke released their first album Square Moon. Melissa Vandewalle had left the project. Heidi Van Tiggelen became more involved in the project (keyboards, visuals) and Der Klinke became a 'real' band.

After the release of "Square Moon" Der klinke started to go live.To make this work Sam Claeys, Chris De Neve, and Marco Varotta joined the band(Bassguitar, drums, guitar). So with the recordings of "The Second Sun " der Klinke aimed at making this album sounding quite different.. improved.  Like Ches once said.. "Square Moon" was the album that I should have released in the eighties, while "The Second Sun" is the one that had to be released in the nineties.. "Our third album will be the one of today.."

By the end of 2013 Der Klinke released a second single and video The Facts of Life for their upcoming third album. When listening to the demo they found it sounding quite military so they decided to do something with it in a setting of the first world war.. After all "Flanders Fields"is in their backyard in a manner of speaking..

Der Klinke didn't realise that 2014 was nigh is the year of massive memorials of WW I - The Great War. Marco volunteered to take the role as British soldier of The Great War.

Lacuna Coil releases video for I Forgive (But I Won't Forget Your Name)

Lacuna Coil is a metal band from Milan, Italy, formed in 1994. The group consists of Cristina Scabbia (vocals), Andrea Ferro (vocals and keyboards), Cristiano Migliore (guitars), Marco Biazzi (guitars), Marco Coti Zelati (bass and keyboards), and Cristiano Mozzati (drums and percussion).Lacuna Coil  is known for composing mid-tempo songs consisting of prominent guitar lines and contrasting dual female/male vocal harmonies to help create a melodic, detached sound. However they also have a wide range of songs with a harder and more traditional metal sound.

Lacuna Coil appeals to a wide range of audiences going from goths over metalheads to more moderate alternative music fans.

The year is 2014, and the album is “Broken Crown Halo” – it marks the latest chapter in the ongoing LACUNA COIL legacy, a dark and sultry ride that started in Italy and has resonated in an opaque wake of sonic splendor throughout the world. Lolita KompleX delivers an 'interesting' cover of "All the thing she said" by t.A.T.u.

Austrian alternative band Lolita KompleX delivers an 'interesting' cover of "All the things she said" by t.A.T.u. 

After the break-up of his former band Sanguis et Cinis, Eve Evangel founded Lolita KompleX in early 2008 to realize his idea of a Lolita fashion inspired, but independent Gothic Metal band. In 2011 Lolita Komplex released their first album titled Le Cabaret de Marionnettes.The album got a lot of positive feedback and was received well by the alternative media calling Lolita KompleX a band on the rise.Cabaret des Marionnettes"shows all different facettes of Lolita KompleX from traditional gothic, driving metal, raw punk, melancholic rock to edgy visual kei and even electro. Later that year Lolita KompleX did a tour through Japan playing Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto

In april  2013 Lolita Komplex came back in colaboration with psychobilly/punkrockers Kitty in a Casket. with the single and video of"All the things she said", which of course is a cover of the hit single from Russian girl group t.A.T.u. The band is currently working on their 2nd album.

Umbra et Imago: Gothic Erotic to the extreme

German gothic erotic band Umbra et Imago has been around since  1991. From the beginning, Umbra et Imago have been picking up Sigmund Freud's idea that sexuality was the center of our being. They processed sadomasochistic fantasies through their cynic lyrics. According to the band, this theme was chosen because it represents the most intellectual form of sexuality If you are among the lucky ones who have seen them perform during one of their short club tours, you will have been impressed or even stunned by their live show incorporating BDSM acts and complex pyrotechnics.

If you are able to see passed the kinky theatrics, you will have to admit that Umbra et Imago musically is a real good band.  They have released 10 albums and scored a number of modest hits.

Umbra et Imago has announced retiring a number of times in the past years.  Maybe after this year Umbra et Imago's mastermind Mozart will call it quits for good.
But until then try to enjoy one of their live shows, if you haven't had the chance yet. It will be a one in a lifetime experience.
